Unit I:

Physical Principles

Structure and properties of matter- solids, liquids and gases, adhesion, surface tension viscosity, density and elasticity.
Electron theory, static and current electricity.
Structure of atom, molecules, elements and compounds.
Conductors, Insulators, Potential difference, Resistance & Intensity.

Ohm’s Law- Its application to AC & DC currents.

Rectifying devices – Thermionic Valves, Semiconductors, Transistors, Amplifiers, Transducers Oscillator circuits.
Capacitance, condensers in DC and AC Circuits.
Display devices & indicators- analogue & digital.

Unit II:

Effects of Current Electricity

Chemical effects – Ions and electrolytes, Ionization, Production of a E.M.F. by chemical

actions.

Magnetic effects, Molecular theory of Magnetism, Magnetic fields, Electromagnetic induction.
Millimeter and Voltmeter, Transformers and Choke Coil, thermal effect-joule law, heat

production.

Physical principles of sound and its properties.
Physical principles of light and its properties.
Electromagnetic spectrum – biophysical application.
Electrical supply:
1. Brief outline of main supply of electric current.
2. Dangers- short circuits, electric shocks.
3. Precautions – safety devices, earthing, fuses etc.
4. First aid & initial management of electric shocks.

Unit III:

Biomechanics And Exercise Therapy

Introduction to exercise therapy, principles, technique and general areas of its application, Assessment & its importance.

Force: Composition of force, parallelogram of forces.
Equilibrium: Stable, unstable, neutral.
Gravity: Center of gravity, Line of gravity.
Levers: 1^st order, 2^nd order, 3^rd order, their examples in the human body and their practical applications in physiotherapy, forces applied to the body levers.
Pulleys: Fixes, Movable.
Springs: Series; Parallel
Tension
Elasticity: Hook’s law.
Axis: Sagittal, Frontal, Transverse, vertical.
Planes: Sagittal, frontal, Horizontal.
Definition of speed, Velocity, work, Energy, power, Acceleration, Momentum, Friction and Inertia.

Unit IV:

Introduction to movements

Introduction to movements including analysis of joint motion, muscle work and Neuro muscular co- ordination.

Principal classification techniques physiological &therapeutic effects indications & contraindications of therapeutic exercises.

Unit V:

Classification of movements

Describe the types, technique of application, indication, contraindications, effects and uses of the following.

a) Active movement

b) Passive movement.

c) Active assisted movement

d) Resisted movement
